This has taken me 5 months to write. I hope whoever reads this, thinks twice about bringing their pet here, especially if you have a Senior pet. After moving to Baltimore in November, about a month later I brought my senior cat (21 years old) to have him checked out and to establish a new vet. He had a rough 2017 and had had seizures. The medicIne also gave him diabetes. And although I knew it would be tough, he did ok in the move, at first. But he soon began to decline. All of this was told to this vet at his first appointment. 3 weeks later my cat had what seemed to me to be another seizure or worse, a mini stroke. It was appx 5 pm on a Friday night. I was distraught and felt the end was near. But since I’m not a vet I called to see if I could bring him in and have him checked out - I needed a professional medical diagnosis to understand what was happening before putting him to sleep. The receptionist who answered that evening told me that the Dr had no appt. and was filled. I again explained the seriousness of what happened. It seemed to me that it didn’t matter much to her. I was very surprised and asked (pleaded) that I could bring him there ASAP. Surely a vet would understand if this was near the end of his life. Plus, they closed at 7 pm that evening - which was still 2 hours away. I moved from NYC where they wouldn’t have even blinked to bring your very sick pet in. She told me she’d have the Dr call me. I felt better and started gathering his bag and my coat etc thinking I’d be leaving soon. The vet called at about 5:30ish. She asked what happened and I explained that he may have had a mini stroke but I wasn’t sure and maybe needed to be put to sleep. She said she didn’t have any appointment that evening. I was shocked but persisted and asked about the next morning or afternoon. She had nothing until sometime on Monday. I was angry and in tears. I know i must have questioned it. But whatever else was said. I just hung up shocked. It made a very sad event much more stressful. I took him 35 minutes away to an emergency vet instead. My cat crossed the rainbow bridge the next day. It was his time. But I will never forget what CityPets had done. It was cruel, wrong and frankly, unreasonable and unprofessional for a vet. I question the character of a person who wouldn’t allow a dying cat to come in when the office was open. The emergency vet in Catonsville was wonderful to him and I’m very thankful for that. But honestly, if you read this and you are considering a vet, ask yourself if you feel ok with a vet that wouldn’t allow you to come in if it was your dog or cat who had a sudden medical emergency.
